Two arrested at weekend for drink-driving
Two motorists were arrested for drink-driving over the weekend after blood tests showed they were above the legal alcohol limit.
The Bermuda Police Service said the arrests were also effected for outstanding warrants.
Officers were conducting a traffic exercise along Middle Road, near Morgan Road, Warwick, when a motorcyclist was clocked travelling at 58km/h shortly before 11pm on Saturday.
After the rider was stopped, he appeared unsteady on his feet.
The 28-year-old Warwick resident denied drinking but officers detected a strong smell of alcohol on his breath and noticed that he was slurring his words.
An alco-analyser test showed the rider’s blood alcohol level to be almost double the legal limit of 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.
The man was also arrested for possession of a sharply pointed article in a public place after officers recovered a folding knife from his front right pocket.
In a separate incident, officers were conducting speed checks at the junction of South Road and Bellevue Drive, Paget, when they clocked a motorcyclist travelling at 61km/h at about 11pm on Friday.
Officers stopped the rider and detected a strong smell of alcohol on his breath. They asked him to step off the motorcycle and noticed his eyes were glazed.
The 31-year-old Warwick resident was arrested on suspicion of operating a motor vehicle while impaired.
He was taken to Hamilton Police Station where an alco-analyser test showed his blood alcohol level to be almost four times the legal limit of 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.
The spokesman said both men were expected to appear before the courts.
