Somerset lifts one-year ban on Macai Simmons

St George’s vice-captain Macai Simmons will be eligible to play in the Champion of Champions match against St David’s this afternoon after Somerset Cricket Club rescinded a ban imposed against him.

Somerset banned Simmons from its premises for a year following an altercation with coach Janeiro Tucker after the Cup Match trophy ceremony at Wellington Oval in August.

Simmons, who had been involved in a number of on-field incidents during a tetchy Annual Classic, was informed by Somerset in December that he had been banned from its premises for a year, which would have ruled him out of Cup Match in 2026.

However, at a Somerset Cricket Club management meeting yesterday, a decision was made to rescind that and replace it with a suspended one-year ban.

The move means Simmons is now eligible to play for St George’s in their Champion of Champions match against St David’s this afternoon and, provided there is no further indiscretion, will be available for Cup Match selection.
