Bermuda beat Guyana in rugby international
Bermuda’s senior men’s rugby team ground out a narrow win over Guyana last weekend.
Three penalties from Brandon Sangster gave Bermuda a 9-5 win in an attritional game at National Park rugby field in Georgetown, with the match earning valuable points in the Rugby Americas North competition.
Brian Archibald, head coach of Bermuda, was pleased with the away win but feels his side were lucky to have come out on the winning side.
“I don’t think you can ever be sad with a win, especially away from home,” Archibald said.
“Guyana were probably a better team than us on the day but they just made too many mistakes and we didn’t make as many as them.
“They had plenty of chances to score and just didn’t take them, so they’ll be more upset than we are. It’s one that we maybe didn’t deserve to win, but we did, so you’ve got to take the positives from winning a game that we probably shouldn’t have.
“But we’ve been in many games that we probably should have won and haven’t, so it’s good to be on the other side of one for a change.”
Bermuda have an unusually quick turnaround, with their next game at home to Cayman coming in just a couple of weeks and Archibald will be analysing where to improve in the coming days.
“I’m probably going to have a look at the video because there are things when you're on the sideline that you are feeling that the players are not at the same time.
“Some of the players came off the pitch saying that they never thought they were going to lose it, and that’s actually quite a good thing, but it didn’t look like that from where I was standing.
“We’ll look at the video, chat to the players and get their interpretation of what they felt went well and what didn’t go well, then we’ll make a plan and take it from there.”
