Team Bermuda will attempt to extend their lead in the International Hot Rod Association Offshore Powerboat Series Super Stock class competing in the Thunder On Cocoa Beach in Florida tomorrow.

The dynamic duo of Steven Bridges and David Selley are off to a flying start in this year’s Championship having won the St Petersburg Powerboat Grand Prix and finishing runner-up in the New Orleans Powerboat Grand Prix to secure top spot the standings after the opening two races of the seven-race series.

They are heading into tomorrow’s event holding an eight-point advantage at the summit over second place rivals Wozencraft, with Allied-STR Powerboats a further eight points adrift in third.

Bridges and Selley are making their third appearance at the event, where they narrowly missed out on the podium on their debut in 2024 and finished sixth last year.

Also flying the island’s banner in Florida is the team of Luis Martins and Nick Imprescia in their 32ft twin-engined catamaran, Nuff Said.

Martins endured an eventful debut with former colleague Andy Stoneham in the event a year ago when they flipped their boat.

The incident occurred on the sixth lap of the race, which brought proceedings to a halt as safety personnel came to their aid.

Fortunately the pair were unharmed during the mishap.

Stoneham has since been replaced by Imprescia in the cockpit and, along with Martins, has enjoyed considerable success having finished runner-up at last year’s Race World Offshore Key West World Championships in Florida.

The pair presently sit in sixth in the 12-boat IHRA Offshore Powerboat Series Super Stock standings after producing finishes of sixth and fifth in the first two races of the Championship.

The IHRA Offshore Powerboat Series is a new professional racing Championship.

Sanctioned by the International Hot Rod Association following its late 2025 acquisition of Powerboat P1 USA/P1 Offshore, the series aims to unify American offshore racing under a single, well-funded platform.

The series is known for its high-profile launch and boasts a total prize purse exceeding $2 million for this year’s inaugural season.

Meanwhile, the domestic powerboat racing season continues tomorrow at Ferry Reach.

Only three classes were represented in Bermuda Power Boat Association’s season opener a fortnight ago.

Among those making solid starts to the 2026 campaign were the team of Ryan Resendes and Jahcai Morris, and Brandon DeSilva and Blake Burgess, who swept both of the 25-minute heats in their respective classes in windy and choppy conditions.
