Let’s have a referendum on Caricom
Dear Sir,
The people of Bermuda would like the Government to provide (i) an itemised list of each Caricom member’s national debt, and the number of voters; (ii) the running cost per year of each debt; (iii) the crime statistics for each member, including Haiti, Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago; and (iv) what economic influence China and Russia have over members’ governments and their economies.
What is wrong with regular referendums and direct democracy in Bermuda to decide major issues — such as Caricom and independence? What is the Government afraid of? How about one referendum a year, supported by a lead-in petition every November-December to vote on up to say three major issues which affect our long-term future?
Should there be another Petition-Referendum Party called “People of Bermuda” (The PRB Party)?
