Hotel owner says flooding at Fairmont from burst pipe
Westend Properties has confirmed that extensive flooding captured on video inside the Fairmont Southampton was caused by a burst pipe.
One of two videos circulating on social media passes through a number of rooms before arriving at the main lobby, where the area appears saturated.
Water can be seen pouring from ceilings, including around the light fixtures, electrical wires and vents, while tiles drop to the floor.
A spokesman for Westend Properties, the resort's owner, told The Royal Gazette: “The hotel property experienced some water intrusion as a result of a burst pipe.
“Our project team responded quickly and all affected areas have been cleaned up. Renovation work will continue as scheduled.”
The Gazette is awaiting further details on how the incident may affect redevelopment timelines.
Chris Maybury, of Westend Properties, said at a Build Summit last month that the hotel was expected to be completed this year.
The Fairmont Southampton was acquired by Gencom, a Miami-based investment firm, when the company purchased Westend Properties in 2019.
