New provision for outstanding traffic warrants
A streamlined process for dealing with outstanding traffic warrants has been introduced in an effort to reduce public inconvenience.
The Bermuda Police Service announced that the new provision involved attendance at Hamilton Police Station for processing and was effective immediately.
A spokesman added that the change was made with the authority and approval of the senior magistrate.
Under the latest approach, people with outstanding warrants will be received and processed by the station duty officer at the police station front desk.
Upon arrival, those attending will be asked to provide their personal details, their warrant information will be confirmed and they will then be directed to attend the Magistrates’ Court directly on the same day at 9.30am.
People who wish to avail themselves of the arrangement are asked to report to the Hamilton Police Station between 8am and 8.30am to allow sufficient time for processing prior to their court attendance.
The spokesman said: “The Bermuda Police Service recognises that the traditional traffic warrant processing experience placed a significant burden of time and inconvenience on members of the public.”
He noted that the move, which came through collaboration between the BPS and the judiciary, was designed to streamline the process.
This makes it as seamless as possible while encouraging members of the community to come forward and address outstanding traffic matters proactively, the spokesman added.
He said: “The Bermuda Police Service remains committed to working collaboratively with our community and partner agencies to provide a service that is both efficient and people centred.”
