Steven Bremar Jr is giving Somerset’s Cup Match selectors plenty of food for thought after scoring his second century in a week for Cleveland County.

Bremar, who lost his wicketkeeping role for Somerset to colt Zerai Tomlinson in the Annual Classic last year, followed up 125 against Devonshire Rec with a score of 104, off 90 balls, against PHC at Lord’s on Sunday.

Bremar, who came in at No 4, arrived at the crease in just the fourth over of the game after PHC claimed the early wickets of opener Jermal Proctor and Jabari Darrell.

Taking his guard at 23 for two, Bremar stabilised the Cleveland innings, recording partnerships of 70 with Jacobi Butterfield and 126 with Q’Shai Darrell for the third and fourth wickets respectively.

Bremar’s heroics, reaching 104 before being given out leg before to Davin Dill, was the key contribution to Cleveland’s total of 248 all out in 37.5 overs, a score helped by PHC bowling 31 wides.

Dill took three for 72 in ten overs for PHC, with Charles Trott taking three for 35 in his ten overs.

PHC made a good fist of their response with opener Omari Deshield scoring 54 off 85 balls and Sage Carter hitting 63 off 97. But their run-rate was always below the line and despite Koshun Durrant scoring 32 late in the innings, they played out their 50 overs and finished on 210 for seven.

Proctor was the pick of Cleveland’s bowlers with three for 41 from his ten overs with Q’Shai Darrell picking up two wickets and Makai Young and Shaquille Pitcher both getting a wicket apiece.
