Watch: diverse cuisines promised at Taste of Bermuda
Celebrity chefs, diverse cuisines and exciting experiences are promised at the thirteenth edition of the Taste of Bermuda food festival.
This year the festival will feature two new events: a “Tabletop Theatre” showcase at Pier Six on October 10 and an edible movie experience the day after at Fort Hamilton.
Dwayne Caines, chief executive for the Corporation of Hamilton, said: “Taste has become much more than a food festival.
“It is a celebration of Bermuda, our food, our people, our creativity, our culture and our hospitality industry.”
He said the festival was designed to bring people together and showcase “some of the very best Bermuda has to offer”.
The festival will kick off on October 8 with the return of the Tastemakers event, hosted by the city in partnership with the Bermuda Hotel Association.
Given its successful debut last year, Mr Caines said the event takes the festival beyond Hamilton and into seven of the island’s leading hotels.
Tastemakers will call on Cambridge Beaches, The Rosedon, The Hamilton Princess & Beach Club, The Reefs, The Loren at Rosewood Tucker’s Point and the Fairmont Southampton.
Mr Caines said the event will feature exclusive dining experiences and culinary talent.
On October 9, Bacardi Limited will host The Art of the Pour at its headquarters on Pitts Bay Road.
Under the theme “Havana Nights”, the island’s best mixologists and bartenders will showcase their creativity and craftsmanship.
On October 10, the Tabletop event will see the gelling of dining and storytelling under the roof of Pier Six.
Mr Caines said the event — which will be curated by the Island Restaurant Group — includes projection mapping, food technology and storytelling, offering attendees an “immersive experience” built around the island’s seasonings, ingredients and culinary traditions.
At the edible movie event at Fort Hamilton on October 11, attendees will enjoy dishes inspired by moments in the film Ratatouille, which will be screened.
“Hamilton is Bermuda’s culinary capital and this October we intend to showcase exactly why,” Mr Caines said.
Clarence Hofheins, the BHA president, said the association is excited to take part in the festival.
He noted the addition of the Fairmont Southampton to the Tastemaker event, adding that the hotel will offer attendees a special dinner at its recently unveiled Palmetto Beach Club.
Mr Hofheins said: “Some of our hotels would be bringing in celebrity chefs, other hotels would be featuring their executive chefs, different palettes, different menus — it will be an exciting evening for everyone that signs up for it.”
He said since many of the events will be open air, attendees would be able to “experience Bermuda at its best”.
Jalen Harvey, commercial manager at Bacardi, said the spirits company was happy to host the Art of the Pour.
“We are looking forward to everyone coming and joining us at the Bacardi headquarters once again,” he said.
Tickets for the Taste of Bermuda food festival will go on sale from Friday.
