Fast food took on a new meaning at the weekend when the Bermuda Police Service captured a delivery rider speeding at almost 100 kilometres an hour.

Officers ticketed the rider for reaching 99km/h while included in the other top figures was a minibus driver clocking up 81km/h to earn a ticket.

The BPS posted some of the results of their patrols on Facebook with a message that said: “Speeding remains the No 1 offence being ticketed so far this weekend.

“We’re also seeing far too many motorists committing other offences, including not wearing seatbelts and using cellphones while driving.

“Our high-visibility traffic initiatives will continue throughout the weekend.”

They urged drivers: “Slow down. Buckle up. Put the phone down. Get home safe.”

It was announced this month that extra officers would be drafted in on overtime to target traffic offences, particularly those most likely to lead to death and serious injury.

Darrin Simons, the Commissioner of Police, said then that those included speeding, impaired driving, dangerous and careless driving, mobile phone use and unsafe overtaking.

The BPS said last week that the number of deaths on the island’s roads in 2026 was 12, after one that was earlier recorded was deemed instead to have been a medical incident.
