A rollover schedule will be in place for island-wide trash collection next week as a result of the Labour Day public holiday on Monday.

Pickups for residential waste will move by one day, so that rubbish normally lifted on a Monday will instead be collected on Tuesday, and so on.

The final uplift of the week will be on Saturday, for residents whose trash is usually taken on a Friday.

“Residents should place their household garbage out by 7.30am on their revised collection day,” a spokeswoman for the public works ministry said.

“There will be no change to recycling collections, as next week is not a scheduled recycling collection week.

“The Tynes Bay public drop-off will remain open on Labour Day, September 7, from 9am to noon.”

The City of Hamilton said that on Monday, garbage collection will take place only for businesses, bars and restaurants.

It added that normal garbage collection will resume for all businesses and residents on Tuesday.

The City called for all garbage to be placed on the sidewalk or in designated garbage collection areas by the appropriate collection times.
