Owen Darrell represents Bermuda in tourism conference
The Minister of Tourism, Transport, Culture and Sport represented Bermuda in Guyana during a Caribbean tourism gathering this week.
Owen Darrell visited Georgetown for the Caribbean Tourism Organisation’s State of the Tourism Industry Conference.
He was joined by Christopher Madeiros, the winner of the 2026 Bermuda Youth Tourism Speech Competition, who will represent Bermuda at the Youth Congress and participating in the Youth Tourism Debate.
Mr Darrell said: “Bermuda’s participation in Sotic 2026 provides an important opportunity for us to engage with our Caribbean partners and contribute to the regional conversation on the future of tourism.
“The theme of this year’s conference speaks directly to the need for destinations to embrace innovation while ensuring that tourism remains sustainable and inclusive.
“I am pleased to represent Bermuda at this important regional gathering and particularly proud that we are also bringing the voice of Bermuda’s young people to the discussion through Christopher Madeiros.”
Sotic 2026 took the theme “Tourism Futures: Smart, Sustainable and Inclusive” and invited people from different backgrounds to become involved.
The CTO Annual General Meeting, which was held on Tuesday, invited member countries to discuss how to achieve their goals for the organisation’s future.
Mr Darrell took part in the meeting, as well as the CTO’s business meetings.
The Youth Tourism Debate will take place today, while destination media briefings will close out the conference tomorrow.
Jan Hutton, the Bermuda Tourism Authority’s chief executive officer, will highlight Bermuda as an attractive tourism destination and share the island’s story.
