PLP Women’s Caucus hosts breast cancer awareness event
More than 100 guests attended a breast cancer awareness breakfast hosted by the Progressive Labour Party Women’s Caucus.
The third annual event, held at West Pembroke Primary School auditorium on Saturday, was intended to provide education on breast cancer, prevention and community support while helping to uplift the community.
The programme featured presentations by Azuree Williams, Karen Grant Simmons and Kisha Tyrrell.
Joanne Ball-Burgess led attendees in a chair-yoga demonstration and Elaine Butterfield served as moderator, delivering an “engaging” introduction to the panel.
Cindy Swan, a women’s caucus member, said: “The breast cancer awareness breakfast was a true community effort thanks to the generosity of our members and local partners.
“Pals provided notebooks and Ultimate Imaging donated lip balm for every attendee.
“A continental breakfast was provided by local vendors PSSST, Roy’s Fine Foods and Soulfood Restaurant.
“The PLP Women’s Caucus intentionally kept ticket prices affordable and donated many tickets to broaden access to cancer-prevention information.
“Attendees showed their support by dressing in pink, and Mrs Gloria Holdipp assisted with event decorations.
“PLP Members of Parliament and senators also donated tickets to their constituents, many of whom expressed appreciation for the complimentary invitation.”
Raffle prizes were donated by multiple organisations and supporters.
The event was organised by the PLP Women’s Caucus fundraising committee, which said it looks forward to continuing the tradition and expanding efforts in 2027.
