Some of Bermuda’s top male swimmers combined their talents to break a 23-year national record yesterday.

Connor Hupman, Sam Williamson, Logan Jones and Noah Maranzana shattered the men’s 15 and over 200 metres medley relay record set by Olympian Roy-Allan Burch, Ronald Cowen, Graham Smith and Michael O’Connor at the 2003 Island Games in Guernsey.

Bermuda’s newest generation of swimming talent stopped the clock at 1min 46.01sec, more than two seconds quicker than the previous record of 1:48.17.

It was Hupman who got the team off to a fantastic start in the pool at Saltus Grammar School, recording a time of 26.47 in the 50 metres backstroke. He was followed by Williamson, who posted a time of 28.95 in the breaststroke leg.

Logan Jones, a multiple winner at the Bermuda Amateur Swimming Association Fall Meet, produced a split of 26.22 in the butterfly before Maranzana anchored the team with a time of 24.37 in the freestyle.
