Austin Smotherman crowned Butterfield Bermuda champion
Austin Smotherman has won the 2026 Butterfield Bermuda Championship.
Smotherman beat 2022 champion Seamus Power on the third play-off hole by making par as Power missed the green with his tee shot and fluffed his chip before putting twice to make bogey.
Both players had earlier made par twice on Port Royal Golf Course’s iconic par-3 16th hole.
After sinking the winning putt, Smotherman spoke to the Golf Channel about how difficult it was to keep his composure after the final 18 holes in the competition were cancelled on Sunday as a result of high winds.
“Mentally, we love doing what we’re doing,” Smotherman said.
“We’re playing an incredible sport in a beautiful place and to come out on top is the cherry on the cake.
“I’ve got some good history playing here and it’s easy to enjoy Port Royal and Bermuda.”
This was Smotherman’s second win on the PGA Tour in less than a month after he won the Bank of Utah Championship three weeks ago, while Power just missed out on becoming the tournament’s first two-times champion after winning the event in 2022.
