A relief tug has arrived in Bermuda to support berthing operations, the Department of Marine and Ports Services confirmed.

The VB Bentayga, which is registered in Panama, arrived in Bermuda on Friday and entered service immediately, assisting in two berthing operations on Saturday morning, a government spokeswoman said.

She said the VB Bentayga, working alongside the tugboat Powerful, has restored Bermuda’s two-tug capability, supporting safe berthing and departure for vessels requiring two vessels.

It replaces the tugboat Faithful, which was damaged in a fire on September 24.

The spokeswoman said repair costs and the return-to-service timeline of the vessel remain under assessment.

Two people were injured in the fire that ignited in the vessel’s engine room.

The Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service said the flames were contained by the vessel’s fire-extinguishing system.
