Warwick beat FC Bascome in Leonard DeRosa-Holder final
After a scoreless first-half, Warwick Football Academy scored two unanswered goals in the second half to beat FC Bascome 2-0 in the U15 Leonard DeRosa Final played at Wellington Oval on Sunday.
Bascome FC dominated play at the start of the second half with Adaj O’Brien forcing the Warwick goalkeeper Maximus Rayner to make a point-blank save using his body to keep the scores level.
Warwick open the scoring against the run of play when left midfielder Cillian McGlynn snaked his way down the left flank before sidestepping the advancing Tayte Browne in the Bascome goal to give striker Charlie Smith an easy tap-in with his square pass.
The Academy defended well under persistent pressure from Bascome FC and would double their lead four minutes from time when Caleb Mello scored with a header that deflected off the upright before going in.
The MVP for Bascome FC was the diminutive midfielder Quinn Farnsworth, who was instrumental in most of his team’s promising attacks while the MVP for the winners was Ray Richardson, who was solid in his defensive role to help keep the clean sheet.
