Kids to paint favourite animals
Eighteen tickets to the 7 p.m. show of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace for today were not oversold, as reported in yesterday's newspaper, but were inadvertently given out for the wrong showing. Anyone who purchased tickets to the movie today is urged to call the general manager of the Liberty Theatre Mrs. Nelda Simons as soon as possible.
Paint your favourite animal on a ceramic tile and it will be transformed into a museum masterpiece.
This is what will take place at the Aquarium and Zoo this Saturday and Sunday, but the event is only open to children. For $20, each child will be furnished with a tile on which they will paint their favourite animal.
Organiser of the event, Mary Winchell, said they are hoping the focus will be local.
"We will be encouraging the children to depict local animals and animals at the Aquarium & Zoo. But if their favourite animal is something else, we will certainly accept that too.'' Once completed, the tiles will be fired at Bermuda Clayworks and then placed on a wall in the Discovery Room, creating a permanent work of art.
One child from every primary and middle school on the Island has been sponsored by the Aquarium to participate and Mrs. Winchell is urging schools and Parent Teacher Associations to sponsor as many additional children as they can.
The ceramic tiles will also be available on the "Open Day-Zoo Doo'' next Saturday.
The event will run between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. this weekend. Funds raised will be used for the new extension to the Discovery Room.

HELPING TO KEEP BERMUDA CLEAN ENV Helping to keep Bermuda clean A bid to keep Hamilton clean during the upcoming Bermuda Day celebrations has been launched by a four-way partnership.
Keep Bermuda Beautiful, the Corporation of Hamilton, Government MP Dale Butler and Hamilton businessmen Charles Spanswick will distribute garbage bags and recycling bags to street-side revellers in the city on May 24, starting at 9.30 a.m.
Aiding them in their quest will be a team of some 35 volunteers and a truck will trace their route at 1 p.m. in order to pick up the bags of refuse.
The truck and the bags are being donated by the Corporation, but Mr. Spanswick called on the public to bring their own bags.
He noted that people began camping out on the city streets early in the morning in order to get a good spot to watch the marathon and the parade and by the afternoon the streets were strewn with litter.
Mr. Spanswick said the initiative was designed to educate the public while getting the city clean at the same time.
Donations are also welcome as the volunteers will mainly be young people representing various different organisations and arrangements can be made by contacting KBB's Lennox Boodram on 295-5142.
