Skipper so close to new league record
Ernst & Young captain Karunakar Kaushik blasted 155 off just 70 balls in a nailbiting draw with North Village.
Kaushik's century was just 11 runs short of breaking Lionel Cann's record total in the Commercial League.
However, the E&Y skipper's hard work was almost all in vain as Village came within two runs of winning the match.
Having set a formidable total of 292 for eight from their 42 overs, E&Y then nearly threw the game away as Village hit 290 for six in their innings.
It was an impressive display from an E&Y side playing with just ten men, and their winning draw lifted them to fourth in the table.
Missing out on the record was of less importance to Kaushik than the result.
"Each team member played their role," said Kaushik. "We came through a test in this game and I am happy that we passed this test of perseverance with flying colours as a team.
"I was just determined to play a long innings and wanted to play all the 42 overs.
"I had conditioned my mind for this and am glad that I came so far in the process. I was playing my natural shots even when I was in the nineties. I have no regrets on having missed out on creating a record as this can be achieved any day."
Meanwhile, fresh from possibly the largest successful run chase in the league's history, Forties literally tossed aside the chance to gain a second win in successive weeks.
Gordon Campbell's run-a-ball 108 gave Forties the perfect start, and with some fine support from Yatin Gawas (46) and Terence Corday (39), their total of 278 for six always seemed to too much for opponents Jamaican Association.
Despite some tight bowling from Hoyt Zuill who took two for 38, and Blake West, three for 42, poor fielding let Jamaican Association off the hook and their 173 for eight was enough to secure a losing draw.
"We have only ourselves to blame for not putting it away," said Forties' skipper Campbell. "We dropped a slew of catches."
The only win of the weekend went to Spring Garden Cavaliers who beat St David's by the narrowest of margins.
Ishwar Nayaranan starred with the ball for Cavaliers, taking seven wickets, as St David's were bowled out for 160.
Cavaliers, though, made a hash of the run chase, and lost nine wickets before a 50 partnership between Boobalan Kannon and Reginald (Lucky) Pitcher saw them crawl across the finish line.
