A golf course worker lost several fingers in a horror on-the- job accident with a lawnmower yesterday.

The man was rushed to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment.

A police spokesman said the 48-year-old groundskeeper at the publicly owned Port Royal Golf Course in Southampton lost fingers from his left hand as he tried to remove debris from inside the machine.

The accident happened about 7am while the man was operating a tractor style mower.
