But it was Saltus, spearheaded by Tyler Butterfield, who led the over-15 division at the half-way mark of the championships being staged at the National Sports Centre.

Butterfield won both the 800 metres and 3,000 metres while team-mate Adrian McLean won the long jump.

Saltus finished three points clear of Berkeley, 36 to 33, while CedarBridge Red are in third place with 26 points.

Berekeley, however, lead the over-15 girls division thanks to two first place finishes from Latanya Dickerson in the shot and javelin. Stacey Babb also edged out a Berkeley team-mate to win the high jump.

Berkeley totalled 53 points followed by Warwick Academy and CedarBridge Red with 41 and 21 respectively.

In the under-15 boys, Berkeley's Richard Walcott, a recent medallist at the Carifta Games, won the 800 and 1500 metres to put his school firmly in comand.

Berkeley won five of the six finals to accumulate 59 points, well ahead of second-placed Saltus (22) and CedarBridge Gold (17).

Warwick Academy lead the under-15 girls with 31 points after an impressive showing from Shanay Scott who was second in the 800 metres and then won both the high jump and 3000 metres against older opposition.

Berkeley lie second on 27 points followed by BHS on 21.

Today's final day sees all of the sprint finals, starting with the 200 metres at 11.00 a.m.

NEARON, RATCLIFFE IN FRONT GLF Nearon, Ratcliffe in front Local player Valerie Nearon and partner Carol Ratcliffe from Florida take a three shot lead into the final round of the Mid Ocean Club Ladies Invitation golf tournament today.

Trailing first day leaders Dolly Winwick and Bonnie Tyler by a shot, Nearon and Ratcliffe enjoyed an outstanding round of 64 on Wednesday to move into first place of the event, which is in its 15th year. Winwick and Tyler could only add a 68 to their opening round 63 and dropped to second place on 131.

Former Bermuda residents Jean Mylrea and Ginette Spinucci moved up to third place with their second round of 66 which puts them a stroke behind Winwick and Tyler.

Mylrea/Spinucci and Nearon/Ratcliffe are also setting the pace in the gross division where Mylrea and Spinucci hold a three-stroke lead over the net leaders. Three other pairs, Shirley Wildi/Ann Probert, Helen Stovell/Hanna Steel and Winwick/Tyler are a further three strokes back on 153.
