Raneika Bean continued her record-breaking form in the Island's High School track and field meet over the weekend.
The Berkeley student won the 100 metres in a record 11.7 seconds and also finished first in the 200m and the long jump to be declared champion girl in the under-15 section. Team-mates Latoya Dickinson and Stacy Babb were joint runners-up in the competition at the National Stadium.
Their performances prevented CedarBridge, in their inaugural track meet, from completing a clean sweep. CedarBridge finished second to Berkeley in the category but won the under-15 boys, and under-19 boys and girls.
Champion boy at under-15 level was Jeremiah Smith of Warwick Academy, who broke the 800m record on Friday. Saltus student Tyler Butterfield, who finished runner-up, was also in record-breaking form in the 1500m, clocking a new best of 4.14:09. Butterfield had already broken a track record in the 3000m on Friday.
The CedarBridge 4x100 relay team also set a record of 48.8.
Champion girl at under-19 level was Janine Scott of Mount Saint Agnes, who had firsts in the 100m, 200m and the long jump, although her school could only manage joint fourth place overall.
Joseph Butterfield triumphed in the 100m, long jump and triple jump to be honoured as champion boy in the same age group.
ROAD RUNNING RUN Brett Forgesson and Lynn Patchett produced confidence-boosting performances in the final tune-up for next Monday's annual Marathon Derby with victories in the Bermuda Regiment five miler on Sunday.
Over a tough, hilly course, Forgesson clocked 27 minutes and seven seconds to edge one of his Derby rivals, Jamal Hart (27.58), by more than 50 seconds.
Ronue Cann, a new member of the Masters (over 40) club, took third in 28.58 ahead of three other masters -- Van Doyling (4th, 28.58) Jean Pierre Sylvester (5th, 29.08) and Harry Patchett (6th, 29.10).
Derby favourites Jay Donawa and Tracy Wright were both mising from the field.
Lynn Patchett, meanwhile, raced clear in the ladies division, winning in 31.29, one place ahead of Anna Eatherley who clocked 32.11. Kim Mason placed third in 37.34.
TRIATHLON TRI Ten-year-old Geoffrey Smith dominated the youngest division in the second Pirate's Port Triathlon in perfect conditions at Clearwater Beach On Sunday.
Smith completed the 100m swim, 5K bike and 1K run in 17.25 to hold off newcomer to the sport Chayce Smith by 21 seconds in the seven to 10-year-olds.
Tyler Abbott, also competing for the first time, finished fourth, 36 seconds behind Flora Duffy.
Duffy finished first among the ten-year-old girls in a blistering time of 18.02.
Lawson Williams, 12, finished the 11 to 14 age group in first place, more than three minutes ahead of 13-year-old Travaughn Smith. Williams covered the 200m swim, 10K bike and 2K run in 33.42.
In the advanced 11 to 14 category Nick Taylor held off rival Chris Conway by just under a minute.
BMX CYCLING CYC The second annual BMX cycle racing festival is set for this Saturday at the Devonshire Community Field on North Shore.
Racing will be divided into age groups for over-14, 13 and under, 11 and under and pee wees (under 10). Registration begins at 2.00 p.m. with the first races scheduled for 4.00 p.m.
