Did someone murder our son?
The parents of a 37-year-old American who was found dead in a Flatts apartment last month refuse to believe that he committed suicide.
Peter Pappas was found at the Brightside Apartments on July 20. Police have ruled out foul play as a cause of death.
The dead man?s father, Jack Pappas, and his mother, Sue Kongsli say they believe their son was murdered.
Mr. Pappas ? known as Dmitri to his family and friends ? was a successful accountant who had just landed a contract with his company Cryptolex and the US Navy. The company had found a way to use technology eliminate all forms of identity theft. Mr. Pappas had travelled to various cities all over the world and had many clients interested. There was billions of dollars to be made from the contract.
Mrs. Kongsli said: ?I think he was murdered, there is no doubt in my mind whatsoever?.
She said that she spoke with her son whom she referred to as Dmitri the day he died.
She asked him to send her a disc for her computer when he returned home.
?He sent me a funny e-mail and told me over the phone, ?Mom I?ll be back in Grand Cayman on Friday? and joked around with me,? she said.
?The last words from his mouth were ?Mom, I love you?,? Mrs. Kongsli said tearfully.
?I know my son and he was a Christian and he would not have done that. First of all he was 5?10 and a half and he allegedly hung himself on a rod that was 5?6. I would like someone to explain to me how that is possible.
?I?m dying, It?s the most horrible thing that has ever happened?.
The family has had a second autopsy conducted in New York.
Mrs. Kongsli tearfully explained that they can not have an open casket funeral for her son. ?Somebody killed him, he was a very successful business man,? she said.
Mrs. Kongsli said that she believes that the death is being covered up by authorities to block potentially bad publicty the Island could receive.
?I think they are covering it up like how they are doing with Natalee Holloway in Aruba because tourism will go down?.
?We (her family) love the Caribbean but when something like this happens something needs to be done?.
She also said that she is not just a grieving mother? but that there is ?factual evidence? that her son did not commit suicide.
Mr. Pappas was buried on Saturday in his hometown of Knoxville, TN.
His mother said that people from all over the world will be in attendance.
The dead man?s father also doubts that his son would commit suicide.
?I have spent days literally, days non stop talking to his closest friends and acquaintances and they do not believe he was suicidal,? Mr. Pappas said.
Mr. Pappas hopes Police are conducting a very thorough investigation and added that he had not ruled out foul play.
?It?s just very difficult, most difficult period of my life?.
Mr. Pappas said that his son was living in the Grand Cayman Islands and was scheduled to take the residency exam once he returned. His son had set a date with a girlfriend for the following Thursday when he arrived back in the Caymans.
He was also supposed to be involved with a merger with a large international accounting firm.
?It?s like a surprise here, very very difficult to deal with?.
Bermuda Police Service spokesperson, Robin Simmons could not offer much information in the matter.
He said, ?There will be a full investigation in the matter?.
