Triathletes shine in Chicago
Adam Petty won his age group while competing in the Chicago Ironkids Triathlon on Saturday. Petty captured the boys 7-8 division with a time of 17.53 even though he fell off his bike twice on a demanding and sometimes confusing course.
Sebastian Ball was third while clocking 18.44 while Simon Morrison was 26th in 21.54.
Jonathan Herring was second overall in the boys 11-12 group when he completed the loop course -- consisting of a four kilometres run, eight kilometres bike ride and 200 metres swim -- in 26.19. The younger children competed on a course that consisted of a two kilometre run, four kilometre bike and 100 metres swim.
Other locals in the division were Andrew Kirkpatrick, who was 12th overall in 30.51, Spencer Conway (21st, 31.52), and Mark Morrison (31st, 33.37).
Nuri Latham, one of the Island's best swimmers, was fifth overall in the boys 13-14 division in 25.51, but even more remarkable was his third place finish in his age group in yesterday's Sprint Triathlon when he completed the half-mile swim, 13 mile bike and three mile run in 1:09.39.
Emma Rego was fifth in the girls 11-12 group with a time of 28.50 while Erica Frith was 15th in 32.44.
Ashley Kirkpatrick finished 11th in the girls 9-10 division in 19.43 while Courtney Cotterill was 21st in 20.45.
In the boys 9-10 division, Chris Conway was 11th in 18.25. Matthew Herring clocked 19.25, finishing 45th overall.
Allison Petty finished 16th overall in the girls 13-14 category when she crossed the finish line in 30.12.
"The kids did fantastically well,'' said Dave Morrison, who accompanied the youngsters.
Several of Bermuda's top triathletes competed in yesterday's Sprint Triathlon, although complete results were not available. However, it is known that Neil de Ste. Croix finished second in his age group while clocking two hours and 10 minutes while Jeremy Ball won his division.
