Bermudian blogger featured on website

Bermudian blogger Robyn Skinner has made it big, with her work featured on the front page of a popular website.

A Bermudian blogger and travel writer hit the big time this week when her work was featured on the home page of a huge international website.Robyn Skinner’s review of her favourite travel books beat off competition from 400,000 other blog entries on Saturday to feature on wordpress.com.The site allows people to create their own blogs, and featuring on its front page is known as being “freshly pressed”.Wordpress showcases more than 330,000 bloggers, including Miss Skinner’s page robynswanderings.com.Feedback from other writers come flooding in after her book recommendations featured on its front page along with eleven other top blog entries. The article, entitled Top Eight Travel Books (and not one is Eat, Pray, Love) resulted in more than 2,000 hits on her page in just one day.“I opened up my email and I was inundated by people’s comments on it. I only realised I was freshly pressed when one of the comments congratulated me on it,” explained Miss Skinner, 31, from Paget.“I was just shocked, and I still am. I had people comment from as far away as the Phillipines, Macau, Nigeria and Colorado. It’s amazing and I’m really happy.”Miss Skinner began her blog in March, inspired by a year spent traveling the globe. Her writing can also be found on her Robyn’s Wanderings Facebook page and fan page, and features in her Rock Fever column in this newspaper each Wednesday. She explained: “It’s a fun travel guide and it’s supposed to give Bermudians a way to get off the Island.“The blog I was featured for was about books. A lot of people can’t travel, but you can go and read these books, which are great. You can read one of my recommendations, The White Tiger, and get a view of Indian life. And having traveled there, I can say it captures India really well.”The rest of Miss Skinner’s top eight travel book recommendations can be viewed on her website and Facebook pages.
