Bull’s Head Car Wash has reopened for business, nine months after it closed down.

The Hamilton business, on Jackson’s Way near the Bull’s Head Car Park, was run by the Riviere family for 15 years before it shut down in February, pending a sale that eventually fell through.

The carwash was then shuttered until November 7, when it started washing vehicles again at weekends only.

Danielle Riviere told The Royal Gazette that the pandemic had derailed the planned sale.

“Unfortunately, the prospective buyer was reliant on items coming in from Asia, but that was delayed and it fell apart when Covid-19 hit,” she said.

There were still costs associated with the business while it was closed, Ms Riviere added, and so when people started asking whether the business would restart, the family decided to reopen on a limited basis.

Her father, Art Riviere, 79, will once again be involved with the team.

“We were all in a place where we were comfortable with our decision to close, so it took some mental processing for us to decide to reopen,” Ms Riviere said.

“But we are entrepreneurial family and so when we decide to do something, we are used to pulling everyone together.”

Customers have responded warmly to the reopening. “We’ve already had quite a few regulars come through and it’s great to hear the excitement in their voices to know that we are open again,” Ms Riviere said.

The plan is for the carwash to remain open only at weekends, unless it is clear that demand warrants more.

Bull’s Head Car Wash is open on Saturdays, from 9am to 5pm, and on Sundays, from 10am to 5pm, offering exterior cleaning for $36 and tyre shine for $4.

Interior cleaning is also offered on Saturdays by appointment, as a result of a partnership with former employee Jason Furbert. Customers can call 505-0900 to book an appointment.
