Plans submitted for new Hamilton car park
A new Hamilton car park could be created if planning permission to demolish an old building is given the go-ahead.
Plans have been submitted for 117 Front Street to knock down the “structurally compromised” building, but keep the façade which has a balcony overlooking the road.
In a letter to the planning department, Onsite Engineering Services Ltd said: “The proposed parking will provide this area of the city, which has an existing demand for public and private parking with 31 new parking spaces and four electric vehicle charging stations.
“The additional parking could help make this area more attractive for rentals and future developments.”
The letter added: “The proposal intends to demolish the existing buildings, which are in disrepair, structurally compromised, and unrentable, while maintaining the façade of the building on Front Street.
“This will extend the existing parking for small vehicles from Reid Street to Front Street.
“The parking will be private, as there are people working in the area who need and are interested in renting the spaces. It will have access and exit via Reid Street and a minimum aisle width of over 20ft.”
A turnaround area is proposed on the south side of the parcel where vehicles can return to the exit on Reid Street.
A pedestrian access will be provided on the Front Street side, added the letter.
