Perfect day: Wedding videographer Doug Block revisits some of his favourite couples from the past 20 years and finds out how their relationships panned out in 112 Weddings

Wedding videographer Doug Block gets to see couples on one of the happiest days of their lives.

But what happens years after the white dress has been packed away and real life starts to set in?

Mr Block, who has worked as a filmmaker for nearly 20 years, examines that question in his latest documentary, 112 Weddings.

It will screen at BUEI on Sunday at 3pm.

The director was inspired to shoot it after bonding with clients only to never hear from them again once he'd given them their footage.

For many years he wondered what became of those marriages.

He finds out by tracking down some of his favourite couples for candid present-day interviews on love and marital commitment.

The documentary 1971 follows at 5.15pm.

It tells the tale of eight ordinary citizens who stole hundreds of secret files from an FBI office in Media, Pennsylvania and shared them with the public.

The files showed how the FBI was illegally spying and intimidating civil rights activists and Americans non-violently protesting against the Vietnam War.

People involved in the raid stayed quiet for more than 40 years, but they speak up in this film.

“Viewed against the backdrop of more recent revelations about the scope of surveillance activities by the American government, this story is as relevant now as it was then,” says Duncan Hall, the organiser of the Weekend Film Series.

“The film has won awards from the International Documentary Association, and the Cinema Eye Honours, and has screened at more than 30 festivals around the world.

“[Academy-Award winning filmmaker and author] Michael Moore invited the film to be part of his festival in Traverse City, Michigan and calls it 'one of the best documentaries I've seen this year'.”

Tickets, $15, are on sale now at the BUEI gift shop, or by calling 294-0204. Trailers of the films can be viewed at www.bermudadocs.com.
