Sentwali Woolridge stole the show in the K-1 Kickboxing undercard at Berkeley Institute on Saturday night. Not only did he win his fight but was also named best fighter in what was judged as the best contest of the night.Woolridge, fighting Marc Hare from the visiting MAS camp, showed his overall technical ability by taking down Hare numerous times in their three-round battle.“I wanted to come out and execute the game plan that was set out,” said Woolridge. “You have to come out with intent to put your stamp on the fight and I’m pleased with the performance.”Bermuda San Shou Association (BSSA) founder Garon Wilkinson was pleased with Woolridge’s display in the ring, admitting that the dominance in which he showed came from the hard work he put in during his training.“I thought he was deserved of winning the fight, he stuck to the game plan and considering he dropped down a weight class to fight . .. that shows his calibre,” said Wilkinson. “He is much more suited for the weight class he fought in so I’m proud of him.“He used his knees well and when it was time to strike he did.”The local association didn’t have things their own way, however, losing three of the five K-1 fights. In the surprise of the night, Jermal Woolridge suffered the first lost of his career when he went down to Matello Jones on points.Woolridge didn’t seem to look his normal self and was less than pleased when the final bell rang to end the third and final round.Youngster Samir Furqan got the night underway with a knockout win over Shayne Desjarlais with the Bermudian planting a backwards roundhouse kick to the ribs of his opponent. The fight was stopped less than one minute into the first round after doctors decided Desjarlaid couldn’t go on.Allysa Goodridge, out of the MAS gym in Canada, then defeated Talia Iris by decision to level the scores between the two associations before Daniel Kechecgo defeated Anton Daniels on points.“Overall I’m pleased with how our fighters got on. Obviously the overall record of two wins and three losses doesn’t show the true worth of the quality of fighting but the crowd were entertained and that’s what matters,” Wilkinson said.In the amateur boxing bouts, Stefan Dill won the best fighter award while Chris Wilson’s clash with Chuck Morgan was named the the boxing fight of the night. Wilson won on points.Dill earned a unanimousl points decision over Chris Stafford, showing both flair and aggression to win all three rounds.Coleman Mills beat Jared Jimenez with unanimous decision in the opening fight of the night while Lewis Brien also defeated Richard Boyd on points.Adam Chevis defeated Ricardo Lima with a unanimous decision.Shannon Ford outboxed Nathan Norville for a points win with the BSSA fighter having to outsmart the much bigger and stronger Norville.
