Bascome to fight Garant

The junior middleweight exhibition fight pitting Bermuda's Nikki Bascome against Canada's Justin Garant will go ahead as originally planned during tonight's 'All or Nothing' WBC and WBA middleweight boxing championship at Fairmont Southampton, The Royal Gazette can confirm.The fight had been at risk of being called off after Bascome's trainer, Allen (Forty) Rego, raised concerns about Garant's superior weight.However, both camps agreed to allow the fight to continue at the official weigh-in this morning.Bascome weighed in at 156lbs while Garant tipped the scale at 167lbs, 11lbs heavier than his Bermudian rival."The fight is on and there's not really much to be concerned about," an event spokesperson told The Royal Gazette.Asked if there was any fear the fight would be called off, the fight spokesperson replied: "No, it was just about both camps being comfortable with the other fighter and they are."The fight is going to move on and the event will be successful."Tonight's exhibition fight will consist of three, three-minute rounds.Both fighters will use 16 ounce gloves and not the standard weight used for fights.Bascome is due to fight in an international junior middleweight title bout against Tyrone Black Stallion in Florida later this month.His amateur record currently stands at 9-0.The outcome of tonight's fight will not count on either fighter's career records.Bermuda's Teresa Perozzi will clash with American Tori Nelson (6-0-1) in the main event at tonight's 'All or Nothing' WBC and WBA middleweight unification championship bout.Perozzi (8-4-1) is the defending WBA champ.Remaining tickets can be purchased online at Ptix.bm or at the door.Doors open at 7pm.
