Smith’s man banned for DUI after bike crash

A 21-year-old Smith’s man was banned from the roads for 18 months and fined $1,200 for drink-driving.

Magistrates’ Court heard that Nassir Richardson was caught after his bike crashed on September 10 last year on South Road, Smith’s, near the junction with St Mark’s Road.

Richardson was being treated by medics when police arrived.

Officers suspected Richardson had been drinking.

A later blood test showed he had 128 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80/100.

Richardson admitted driving when the concentration of alcohol in his blood was more than the legal limit of 80mg, but not guilty to driving while impaired.

In a separate case, a 57-year-old man was fined $800 and had ten demerit points put on his licence after he pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention near Gilbert Lane, Southampton.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo heard Antoine Wingood, from Sandys, tried to turn his car into Arnold’s Supermarket, but collided with an oncoming bike.

Both the car and the bike were written off as a result of the collision.
