Legal arguments dominate murder case

The jury in the case of a man accused of a shooting murder did not hear any evidence yesterday due to legal arguments. The panel of eight women and four men hearing the allegations against Antonio Myers spent all day in the jury room while the lawyers in the case discussed the law. They were eventually sent home at 3.45pm. Mr Myers, 25, from Rambling Lane, Pembroke, is accused of being one of the assailants who attacked 30-year-old Kumi Harford on December 5, 2009.Mr Harford, from Mission Lane, Pembroke, was shot multiple times as he sat in his car on nearby St Monica’s Road around 5am. He died of wounds to his head, back and shoulders.Prosecutors allege Mr Myers acted with others who are not before the courts, and at least two guns were used by the assailants. They further allege that the accused man threw his clothes on a bonfire soon after the shooting in a bid to destroy evidence.Director of Public Prosecutions Rory Field told the jury as he opened the case on Monday that police put the flames out and recovered clothes belonging to Mr Myers.Mr Field alleged the shooting flowed “in a direct line” from an earlier disturbance at Devonshire Recreation Club where a man named David Cox and a woman got into an argument.Mr Myers denies murder and using a firearm and the case is expected to continue today.
