Man admits smuggling cocaine

A Barbados man yesterday admitted smuggling more than 700g of cocaine into the Island.David Trotman last month denied importing and possessing the controlled drug with intent to supply.The 40-year-old was arrested at LF Wade International Airport on December 18 with around 741g of cocaine. The drugs were said to have a street value in Bermuda of around $178,000.Trotman has been a guest worker in Bermuda in the past, but was not employed on the Island at the time of the offense.When he first appeared before the courts in December he was remanded into custody, but he was subsequently released on $25,000 bail with a surety in January.Trotman denied the offences in July and was set to go to trial later this month, but reversed his plea yesterday in Supreme Court.Puisne Judge Charles-Etta Simmons remanded Trotman into custody pending sentencing.
