A Hamilton Parish construction worker was released on bail after he admitted kicking the door of a police car and cursing at police.Nickell Smith, 21, pleaded guilty to charges of causing wilful damage to a police car and using offensive words towards police, and apologised for his behaviour.According to prosecutor Susan Mulligan, at around 10.30am on August 27 officers responded to reports of a disturbance on My Lord’s Bay in Hamilton Parish. When they arrived, they saw a number of people, including the defendant, in an argument cursing loudly at each other. The officers were able to separate the groups, but when they did, Smith began to curse at the officers, yelling: “Get off my property. F*** the police.”Smith was warned that it was an offence to use offensive words, but he continued to shout at the officers, saying: “F*** you, boy. You don’t know me. I told you to get off my property.”He was then arrested for using offensive words. The officers brought him to their police car but Smith lashed out, kicking the rear door of the car leaving a large dent. The dent was later repaired at a cost of $1,150.Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo ordered a social inquiry report be carried out on the defendant prior to sentencing, releasing Smith on $1,500 bail until December when the matter will return to court.
