Man denies machete and assault charges

A Devonshire man pleaded not guilty to possessing a bladed article in a public place and assaulting two people when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court this morning.

Gerome Thomas, 39, denied one count of having a machete with a 16.5in blade on Roberts Avenue, Devonshire, and one count of causing unlawful and wilful damage to the value of $792 to a motorcycle.

Mr Thomas also denied two counts of unlawfully assaulting Marlon Smith and Tama-lee Robinson, and doing them bodily harm.

All offences are alleged to have taken place in Devonshire on October 10 last year.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo granted $3,000 bail on the condition that the defendant have no contact with the complainants.

A trial date was set for June 10.

Also in court, Terry Samuels, 58, of Pembroke, denied unlawfully assaulting Emmanuel Alves and doing him bodily harm in Pembroke on February 15.

Mr Tokunbo granted $2,000 bail on the condition that Mr Samuels have no contact with the complainant and set a trial date for May 29.
