Woman denies Westgate drug-smuggling plot

A Warwick woman accused of attempting to smuggle drugs into Westgate Correctional Facility was given bail in Magistrates’ Court this morning.

Shamaine Kidd, 24, denied possessing 19.95 grammes of cannabis and 3.59 grammes of cannabis resin, both with intent to supply, in an increased penalty zone, namely Westgate in Sandys, on January 1.

Ms Kidd also denied attempting to convey the drugs into the prison on the same date.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo granted $10,000 bail with a like surety on the condition that Ms Kidd report to Hamilton Police Station twice a week.

Ms Kidd elected to be tried in Magistrates’ Court and a trial date was set for August 12.
