Machete trial jurors see CCTV footage

Jurors in the trial of two brothers accused of setting upon a teenager with a machete have been shown CCTV footage of the alleged attack.

The footage was taken from two properties close to where the assault took place on March 8, last year in an area known locally as “the jungle” in Devonshire.

Derek Weeks Junior and Javon Weeks are alleged to have attacked Jahkumani Riley-Smith because Mr Riley-Smith and a friend stole a moped belonging to the family.

Yesterday the jury watched two short excerpts of footage taken from the nearby properties twice each.

The footage appeared to show a dark car pull up to the area with its headlights on.

Moments later a person is seen fleeing the scene, while another is seen being knocked to the ground by someone behind him.

A second individual joins in the attack on the person on the ground by kicking the victim, while the initial attacker can also be seen to stamp on the person on the ground.

After the assault the attackers appear to drive away from the scene in the vehicle.

Previously jurors have heard that Mr Riley-Smith sustained a deep, six-inch cut to the side of his neck and his left ring finger was also cut off during the attack.

When giving evidence on Thursday he told the court that he did not see who his attackers were.

Derek and Javon Weeks both deny wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm and having an article with a blade or point in a public place.

The trial continues.
