Pembroke man denies drug importation

A Pembroke man was released on bail this morning after being accused of importing more than 2 kilograms of cannabis.

Andrew Gilbert, 30, denied charges of importing a controlled drug into the island and possessing cannabis with intent to supply.

Both of the offences are alleged to have taken place on July 8 in St George’s, and are said to involve 2,231 grams of cannabis, which prosecutors said could fetch more than $111,000 if sold on the streets of the island.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo released Mr Gilbert on $50,000 with a like surety, with the matter set to return to the Magistrates’ Court on July 12 to be mentioned.
