Drink-driver banned for 18 months

A Hamilton Parish man was taken off the road for 18 months and fined $1,200 todday after he admitted drinking and driving.

Magistrate’s Court heard that Ryan Wong’s car was stopped by police on Middle Road in Devonshire after officers spotted he was driving with his rear lights off.

Police also said they saw Wong’s car nearly strike a wall before he was stopped.

A later breath test showed Wong had 107 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

The legal limit is 80 milligrammes.

The incident happened at about 3.25am on February 4.

Wong, 31, apologised to the court and asked if he could have permission to continue driving his work vehicle.

But magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo said: “There is no reason to make an exemption to the disqualification.”
