A 62-year-old man will return to court on sex assault charges after a magistrate ruled yesterday that there was sufficient evidence to go to trial.Magistrate Craig Attridge rejected a no case to answer submission, which would have dismissed the charges against the defendant, in Magistrates’ Court. The man, from Sandys, pleaded not guilty to an intrusion on a 22-year-old woman and a sex assault on her.He was alleged to have made lewd comments and grabbed her buttocks on August 22, 2018. The defendant and the alleged victim cannot be identified for legal reasons.The trial started on March 18, but was put on hold because of the Covid-19 pandemic.Elizabeth Christopher, for the defence, submitted a no case to answer application in August on the basis that there was not enough evidence to support either allegation.But Mr Attridge said there was enough evidence to support both charges and ordered the trial to continue.He adjourned the case until December 3 and extended the defendant’s bail until then.• It is The Royal Gazette’s policy not to allow comments on stories regarding court cases.
