Roads ban for man who admitted driving under influence of alcohol

Magistrates' Court

A 50-year-old man stopped for speeding admitted to police that he had been drinking before getting on to his bike.

Mohamed Shabdeen, from Sandys, admitted driving under the influence of alcohol when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court.

The court heard that on December 16 last year, police saw Shabdeen speeding on his bike, which crossed over the centre line several times in Paget.

Officers signalled for Shabdeen to stop but he did not do so until he pulled into the parking lot at the Ice Queen restaurant.

Shabdeen told police he did not know they wanted him to pull over but admitted to drinking before getting on his bike.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo disqualified him from driving all vehicles until further notice and ordered that he participate in DUI court.

He also ordered that a drug and alcohol assessment be conducted for Shabdeen.
