Prosecutors decide not to pursue charges against man

Prosecutors have decided to not proceed with charges against a man accused of assaulting a woman.

Damion Williams, 41, from Pembroke, had also been charged in Magistrates’ Court with depriving the same woman, who The Royal Gazette has chosen not to name, of her liberty and threatening her last November.

However, prosecutors filed a nolle prosequi – or a request for an indefinite adjournment – last week, indicating that they would not proceed in the case against him at this time.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo granted the adjournment and discharged Mr Williams from the matters.

Adjournments through a nolle prosequi can be upheld for a year before a case is dismissed.
