A paralegal charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice through social-media posts appeared in Magistrates’ Court this morning.

Eron Hill, 28, from Warwick, requested to have his case heard in the Supreme Court and was not required to enter a plea.

Mr Hill was charged with three counts of attempting to pervert the course of justice through social-media posts made in October or November last year.

He was also charged with six offences under the Electronic Communications Act, including that he made “grossly offensive” posts on social media about police officers and that he caused one officer’s phone number to repeatedly ring to harass him.

Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson released Mr Hill on $10,000 bail, with a like surety, until May 1, when he is expected to appear before the Supreme Court.

Ms Anderson ordered that Mr Hill surrender his travel documents and report to Hamilton Police Station on a weekly basis.

She also ordered Mr Hill not to publish anything in any media in relation to this matter or other legal matters before the court or likely to appear before the court.

It is The Royal Gazette’s policy not to allow comments on stories regarding criminal court cases. This is to prevent any statements being published that may jeopardise the outcome of that case.
