Road ban for rider using phone before crash

A man who collided with a bike in Paget has been disqualified from driving all vehicles for 17 months.

Zion Castle, 21, admitted riding a bike without due care and attention when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

The court heard that Castle, from Devonshire, collided with a motorist on South Road on May 30, 2024.

Castle told police that he looked down at his phone before the collision, in which he and the victim were injured.

He also admitted speeding, two charges of not having a valid driver’s licence and using a handheld device while driving.

In addition to the ban, senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson fined Castle $2,650 for the offences and added several points to his licence.
