West complete All-Star double

The West achieved the double over the East in the annual Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB) Under 14 and 17 All-Star games held at the National Sports Centre (NSC) on Saturday.In the opening game of the day, the West beat the East in Under-14 action by 10 runs with Sanji Dill (43 not out) and Charles Trott (23 not out) putting on 81 runs for an unbeaten third wicket stand as they posted 126 for two in their 22 overs, including 29 extras.Jahkai Benjamin (21) and Chare Smith (10) opened the innings for the eventual winners, while Sekiyah James and Isaiah Creighton both claimed a wicket for the East.In reply, the East could only managed 116 in their allotted overs, James top scoring with 21.Shaquille Outerbridge (19) helped in the unsuccessful run chase, while the West gave up 49 runs in extras.Isaiah Richardson was the leading wicket taker for the West, snatching four including Outerbridge, James, Freeman Lema (5), and Zion Smith Tucker (10).Benjamin also chipped in with the ball, claiming the wicket of Nzari Paynter (2).Dill was named MVP of the game for his contribution with the bat.The match was reduced to 22 overs due to time restrictions.In the second match of the day, it was the Under-17s who would continue with the West’s winning ways, scoring a 14-run victory over their eastern rivals.Batting first, the West scored 117 in 28.1 overs thanks in large part to Joshua Commissiong (17) and Denar Johnson (28), although 31 extras contributed to the cause.Delray Rawlins (12) and Rudi Butterfield (10 not out) also made useful contributions with the bat.Seth Campbell, Demiko James, Shonari Boyles Simons, Rakai Edwards, and Jahnazie Swan all claimed two wickets.In reply, the East fell 14 runs short of their target, ending on 103 in their 29 overs.Swayne Campbell top scored with 36 while James (18) and Nico Gibbons (10) were the only other batsmen to trouble the scoreboard along with the extras (18).Chakote Wainwright helped himself to three wickets while Antonio Darrell and William White both snatched two.Rawlins also grabbed a wicket and although his side weren’t victorious, the East’s Campbell was voted MVP.
