Todd quits as St George’s coach

Richard Todd has severed ties with St George’s Colts

Richard Todd has indicated that he no longer will be involved with St George’s Cricket Club’s football programme. The former assistant national team coach has decided to sever ties after the club failed to address outstanding issues that remain from last season as well as renegotiate a new contract to secure his services at least for the upcoming campaign.Todd’s initial three-year contract as St George’s’ technical director/coach expired at the end of last season. He had been due to meet with club president Neil Paynter to discuss terms of a potential new contract, but those discussions have yet to take place. When contacted Paynter said he was completely unaware of Todd’s decision to part company with the Premier Division club.“He hasn’t officially told St George’s that he doesn’t wish to be there any longer,” Paynter said. “We are due to meet to discuss his position as technical director at St George’s.”Earlier this year Paynter was returned as president of St George’s after withstanding a challenge from Todd during the club’s last annual general meeting. Todd had released a detailed platform outlining his concerns with the state of the club and ideas to address them. But since then it is believed that relations between both men have deteriorated to the extent that Todd now feels that his services are no longer wanted at Wellington Oval.“As a result of the manner in which the club has chosen to not deal with me, despite the manner in which I have worked to build the programme and promote the club over the past three years, I can only reach the conclusion that I am not wanted at St George’s CC,” Todd was quoted as saying in a letter forwarded to club players on July 4.“I therefore would like to notify the players of my decision to no longer be involved with the programme at St George’s.”Todd added: “I am proud of the work and results achieved over my period in charge of leading the program and the foundation that was being laid for future success. I cherish having had the opportunities to work with you all as players and wish you all the best of luck in your future participation.”When contacted yesterday, Todd said: “I will confirm I have communicated to the players as to my involvement next season but decline to elaborate further.”
