Change at the top for St David’s

All change at St David's after their annual general meeting

St David’s have a new president after Cleveland Richardson beat Otis Minors by one vote at the club’s annual general meeting last week.

Richardson had served as vice-president under Minors, who held the position since replacing Aaron Lugo in 2012. Lugo has returned to the executive committee as the new vice-president.

The only executive returning from last year is Samantha Robinson who retains the post of treasurer.

Stephen Tucker has replaced Lucinda O’Brien as secretary while Natalia Wellman is the recording secretary, replacing Violette Fox.

George Cannonier has also returned as the cricket team’s head coach, a position he previously held.

The team lost their opening Twenty20 match last weekend, going down to holders Bailey’s Bay by nine runs.

St David’s meet Willow Cuts on Saturday at Lord’s to determine who joins Bay in Sunday’s semi-finals.

The club’s national team players have also found out where they will have to go to try and lift Bermuda out of Division Four of the ICC World Cricket League, with Los Angeles chosen to host the tournament later this year.

The ICC have announced that the United States was chosen to host the matches, the first World Cricket League tournament that the US has hosted.

The US will play in the tournament along with Bermuda, Denmark, Italy and two teams promoted from the WCL Division Five Tournament, which is scheduled for Jersey from May 21 to 28.

No date for the Division Four tournament has been announced, but ESPNcricinfo reported that Woodley Park in the suburb of Van Nuys will be the location for the matches.

The Leo Magnus Cricket Complex at Woodley Park has four turf pitches adjacent to each other.

Los Angeles hosted the first of eight ICC-organised USA Combines this month. Although the event was taking place at Woodley, ICC officials met with city officials in Los Angeles to discuss hosting the Division Four at the same site.

The US has hosted numerous ICC Americas tournaments in both Fort Lauderdale and Indianapolis.

However, neither city has the requisite three turf grounds within close proximity needed to stage the simultaneous three games each day that are necessary for WCL events.

The most prominent cricket match staged at Woodley was a five-match series between Australia A and India A in September 1999. The inaugural ACF National Championship was also held at Woodley in October 2012.

The US had been in line to host ICC WCL Division Four in 2012, which was tentatively scheduled to be held in Florida in May of that year. However, the USACA’s administrative struggles at the time, most significantly the highly controversial 2012 elections, contributed to the US losing the opportunity to host the tournament.
