Delray Rawlins made his debut for Sydney Cricket Club against New South Wales Premier Cricket First Grade rivals Campbelltown-Camden at the weekend.

Batting at No 5, the Bermuda all-rounder was bowled for one run, his dismissal coming during a collapse in which Sydney lost four wickets for 22 runs after electing to bat.

However, the visiting side fought back to post 363 for nine at stumps.

Opener Justin Mosca led the Sydney batting, scoring 103 from 221 balls with 14 boundaries. Sydney also received good support from captain Harry Dalton, who scored 88, and Anthony Mosca, who chipped in with 54.

Wicketkeeper Beau McClintock led Sydney’s middle and lower-order fightback with a knock of 37 from 36 balls, while No 8 and No 9 batsmen Benjamin Manenti and Ryan Felsch scored 24 each.

Second-change bowler Jarrad Burke claimed four for 80 for the home team from a marathon 26 overs that included eight maidens.

The two-day match will resume on Saturday at the Raby 1 ground.

Rawlins is fresh off his debut season in English county cricket with Sussex.

The 20-year-old made four appearances for Sussex in the Specsavers County Championship Second Division this season, scoring a maiden fifty at that level in the club’s season finale against promoted Nottinghamshire. Rawlins also helped Sussex win the Second XI Twenty20 tournament.

Rawlins is Down Under as one of eight English players awarded an Overseas Placement this winter as part of the England and Wales Cricket Board’s International Pathway programme. During his stay in Sydney he will also receive specialist coaching from former Australian leg spinner Stuart MacGill, who claimed 208 wickets in 44 Tests.
