Fabien Allen today picked up his second player of the match accolade in the Bermuda Smash Invitational for his all-round display to power the unbeaten Pembroke Panthers to victory by six wickets over Smith’s Sixers on their way to the final.

Allen, from Jamaica, finished with three for 31, with Jonathan Van Lange, of Guyana, picking up three for 23, as Sixers, who won the toss and chose to bat in the second semi-final at North Field, National Sports Centre, were bundled out 129 in 20 overs.

Coming in at No 6, Allen slammed one four and three sixes for his 21-ball 34. His 70-run fifth-wicket partnership with Charles Trott, who was unbeaten on 45, was crucial in seeing Panthers over the line with 13 balls to spare.

“It feels amazing to know that we worked hard for this to reach the final,” Allen told The Royal Gazette.

“This is what we wanted for the boys to go to the final and we’re happy that we got this win today. For me, I know how important my role is and I just came out and delivered for the team.”

Having earlier struggled to replicate his fine bowling display against Hamilton Parish Hurricanes when asked to open with his left-arm spin, Allen got the important wicket of Sixers captain Onias Bascome, who departed for a nine-ball 20, thanks to some fine fielding by Dominic Sabir.

Wickets of Anthony Mosca, the Sixers highest scorer with 28, and Shaquan Belle followed for the former Indian Premier League player.

“Those two wickets in the back end are very crucial,” Allen said.

“I think it’s the important batsmen I got at the time. It was a good game and we’re happy that we came out victorious.”

Sixers struggled to put runs on the board and never recovered from losing Bret Hampton in the fourth over. Bascome and Mosca did not hang around long enough to exert any pressure on the Panthers’ bowlers, with an unbeaten 22 from Rodney Trott giving their score some decency.

In the Panthers’ run chase, Gerhard Erasmus and Allen Douglas Jr departed early. Captain Sabir contributed 28 to the team’s cause before he was bowled by Kwasi James.

The stand between Allen and Trott, which was characterised by some powerful hitting from the left-right combination, took Cal Waldron’s side closer to their target. When Hampton had the West Indian caught behind in the eighteenth over, five runs were required.

It was left to Trott to finish off in style with a six off Hampton for Panthers to punch their ticket to the final.

“I think I played my role with the bat,” the player of the match said.

“We were under a little bit of pressure, I just got there and I knew what to do. I kept rotating the strike and tried to get as much as possible runs, it was a good chase in the end.”

Sharing his thoughts on facing Sandys Spartans in the final, after Jeff Richardson’s side knocked out two-time winners Hurricanes in the first semi-final, Allen challenged his team-mates to come into the title decider prepared.

“It's going to be a good game on Saturday, hopefully, we can lift that trophy,” he added.

“The boys are happy, I am also happy, and we’re looking forward to the final. It’s a team sport, so everyone has to come ready and find a way to lift that cup.”
