Homicide case opened into Bermudian’s road death in US

Alma Foggo York, 74, a former professor at Oakwood University, died after she was hit by a car while walking across Pulaski Pike in Huntsville on February 9.The Huntsville Times is reporting that city police have opened a a criminally negligent homicide case against the driver who collided with Ms York.Huntsville Police Chief Lewis Morris reportedly told Huntsville City Council on Thursday that police had given their evidence against the driver, who has not been named, to the Madison County District Attorney's office. He was quoted as saying the District Attorney’s office planned to present the case to the grand jury.Ms York, formerly of Fractious Street, Bailey’s Bay, was born and raised in Bermuda and was a professor at Oakwood from in the 1980s and 1990s, as well as a prominent figure in the Seventh-day Adventist Church.It was reported in February that she died at the scene of the crash after being hit by a 2003 Dodge Neon. The driver was said to have stopped after the collision and Huntsville police were reported to have said at the time that the individual would not be charged in connection with her death.The mother-of-one and grandmother was known to many on the Island as Dean York.* Did you know Ms York?
